A lot of backyards in Cedar Rapids have the same problem - the space is there, but there's nothing usable about it. Grass that turns to mud after rain, no defined area to set up furniture, and nothing that really connects the house to the yard. That's exactly what we set out to fix here.

We installed a new paver patio tucked right up against the back of the house, working around the existing landscaping beds and tying everything in cleanly with the steps leading down from the screened porch above. The layout follows a curved edge that softens the whole look and gives it a finished, intentional feel rather than just a slab dropped in the yard.

Pavers are one of the best investments you can make in a backyard. They hold up through freeze-thaw cycles, they don't crack like poured concrete tends to over time, and if something ever does shift, individual pavers can be pulled and reset without tearing up the whole surface. Built right from the start, a paver patio can last decades.

The homeowner now has a solid, clean outdoor space right off the back door - great for grilling, relaxing, or just getting outside without stepping into a muddy mess. It connects the lower yard to the porch in a way that actually makes sense and makes the whole backyard more functional.

We take a lot of pride in work like this. It's not complicated to look at, but getting the base prep, layout, and edge work right takes real attention to detail. When it's done well, it just looks like it belongs there.
